Question 302 Help

Well im tryin to build a 302 to put in my ranger but not real sure exactly what i should do to it?! Its a 302 out of a 89 f-150 still attached to tranny/t-case sittin in my barn now with the whole top end pulled apart. The motor was efi but i decided that it was gonna be a pain so i ripped it off. I have an edlebrock intake and 4 bbl sittin on it now but id like to get some HP out of this motor but not spend a lot!! So if anyone could point me in the right direction id greatly appreciate it. Thanks

If you keep everything stock, except to change it to carb, you are looking about 180 hp. Cheap upgrades would be GT40 heads (not the P) and a decent RV cam would be best. If this engine is going to be in an off road truck, you want torque, not horsepower.

they are the james duff ones.
I think they would work fine.

Get a good return style fuel pressure regulator, and you can keep your fuel pump and lines.

I agree with above, just put some nice heads and a cam in it, maybe headers if they fit.

86 ford heads

not very high performance

not sure about the cam

I think duff sells 302 headers for the ranger, if not, i have seen them on ebay.

Take a look around google and some of the manufacturers web sites like AFR for builds that people have done with the dyno results posted. Those can be helpful when trying to figure out what type of power you want to make and what parts have already been used to get those numbers. These should list compresion and what type of fuel.... everything that will help you to decide and figure this out.
