You might be able to convert the .40 to .357 sig. Search the intertubes if you really want the .357 sig round.

Imo, .40 s&w is the better round to go with. Cheaper, more available and your paper targets wont know the difference.

They do use the same magazine, at least on my m&p they do.

While that is true, adding a .357sig barrel isnt a bad thing, its a very impressive round.

The guy with the 10mm needs a 9x25 dillon barrel as well.... awesome round.

357 sig is basically a +p+ 9mm round. imo, the 40s&w is just as good in a defensive role due to it being more controllable. The only 357 sig I have ever shot was a p226 and it was a barky little fucker.

S&W M&P30c-Main carry
P3AT-BUG/to lazy to holster up gun
Kahr PM40- BUG/too lazy to holster up gun once I get a pocket holster for it
S&W22A-(7" barrel) fun cheap to shoot gun
Taurus 651-Used to carry it, now just sits in drawer for occasional target practice fun
Rem 870 Express-Haven't shot it in years, one day will convert it to home defense gun
Foreign POS 22 rifle-haven't shot it since I got a 22 pistol

I think that is it, will update when I get my next gun

Its a bit hotter than even a +p+ 9mm. You are looking at 1400+ FPS from a 4" barrel with a 125gr projectile. Thats damn close to a .357 magnum (which the .sig was developed to mimic in an auto)

How fast do you have to get a 9mm 124 gr to make major?

The only factory 9mm I am aware of that makes major is the Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+, and it just barely does that from a Glock 34, maybe from a G17 if the temperature is right.

A lot of open class guys handload for 9mm major. They mostly use a heavy projectile in front of a slow powder to create as much gas as possible to run the compensator. They generally have to load the rounds to max length, which can make them finnicky with some pistols/magazines. The other option is to run .38 super-comp, which has a bit more case volume, so it can be loaded hotter to make major, while being the same diameter to fit the same amount of rounds in the mag.

I know of guys who load their 1911 9mm's to 1375~ to make sure they clear major.

9mm major is only legal in open. It can be done, but its not exactly the safest round. Most people run some sort of double stack 1911, or 2011, or Glock, in 9 major, or .38 super-comp in open. It was made illegal in limited because too many people were blowing their shit up.

Like hand grenade blowing up or glock blowing up? I doubt that was the reason.

It comes down to the fact that Limited requires a minimum of a 10mm diameter bullet (.40) so the 9x19, 9x23, 9x25, .357sig, etc are not competition legal in that division. Personally, I think they should drop the bullet diameter rule, and raise the PF back up to 175.

Open allows 9mm, as long as the bullet weighs 120 grains? and makes 165,000PF.

It wasn't due to fragged 1911 style pistols, I can tell you that much. Another thing to watch in 357 sig is barrel life. overbore cartridges always eat up barrels faster.

Of the kabooms I have witnessed, 3/4 have been 1911 pistols. None of them were shooting 9mm major however.
