Default whos running 35 spline in rear 60

I picked up a 79 dana 60 for the rear of my jeep. Im gonna run 39.5 iroks with 5.38 gears and a welded diff all behind a 2.5l. Am I gonna have problems with the 30 spline shaft? Just wondering if since I have the rear housing empty I should get the spindles bored out now for 35 splines.

I would go 35 spline.

the 30 spline shafts are kinda small, especially for 40's... you'll kick yourself in the ass later if you dont.

when I had my 30 spline 60 apart, I noticed the shafts were smaller than the dana 44s I had.

I run the 30 spline behind my 506 hp big block for 2 years and have been running the exact same axle in my jeep with a 2.5 for 3 years now and the shafts are just starting to twist at the spline. I plan i running them untill they break. Im running 38 in boggers.

30 spline dana 60s are 30 spline 1.31" shafts, same as dana 44 rear shafts. The only strength gain to the shaft is no side loading because they are full float.

I was wondering about the fact that they float if that would help. I got 2 spares with the axle so maybe I will see how long those last. How much to get the spindles bored out and what does the I.D. need to be to run 35 spline?

I was refering to a front, inner shaft I had laying around.

My point is... if you have it apart might as well do it. between some 1541h shafts, having the spindles bored, and a welded carrier you'll only be in a few hundred dollars, for a huge gain in strength.

30 spline D60 rear shafts suck. I've seen a number of them break in situations they shouldn't have. Bore the spindles and do the upgrade now while its easy. You'll thank yourself later. I have the 1541 35 spliners in mine and haven't had a problem yet. I don't go out trying to break shit, but I'm not nice to it either.

A dana 44 front inner shaft is also 1.31" 30 spline.

Anybody with either a big lathe, or a big horizontal mill. Most people pay under $100 to have it done. Mine was done in Three Rivers, quite a ways from Freeland. If anybody wants the contact info for the shop, just let me know.

WTF does that have to do with anything???

Yep, broke 2, carry a spare,. 35's in the front, never an issue. Rear will be changed out next winter. either 35 spline or 14 bolt......we will see. Especially now behind the new motor.

I run Yukon Moly 35 spline shafts, I debated it for a long time but after I got the new shafts and held them up to the 30 spline stockers I was really happy I did it. The only thing I would do different is pay someone to machine the spindles out. I did mine with the boring tool two 1/2" drills and two very sore wrist. Well worth it my friend Tim has broken a hand full of 30 spline stock 60 shafts behind his 2.5l granted he runs an atlas 4.3 to 1.

as long as they are 35 spline 70 shafts, they will fit in a 35 spline 60.

i am kinda doing the reverse right now. i am making a 70 front axle using 60 shafts.
