i think you will be better sending it out to get coated with your headers and such. my guess is that the way they are stamped and assembled it will be a pita to do.

The entire exhaust will be coated. I am sure modifying it will suck but I am concerned about heat on pass floor. After driving and riding in Gradys car the floor temps were huge from side to side.

i think that is a better idea before cutting up a new flowmaster, you are gonna open up a can of worms either way. if you cut the muffler im sure you will change the sound and performance too

Maybe just lizard skin the bottom of your flooring instead and jam a heat shield in there. Airbake pans work really well from what I've read

You will want the exhaust away from the floor as you know. I had my exhaust 1" away from the floor in my jeep thinking it was enough. I burned the heel off my Rocky boot

I did a few muffler cuts/designs/builds back in the late 80's for bowtie small and big block motors when I worked for a couple racers at the oval track. There are some neet little tricks to checking flow through the muffler. Sound is a crap shoot though if you make any major modifications.

Look into some stuff called "glasstherm" JQ. We used to use it to isolate the copper electrodes on automated weld cells from the steel plates they were attached too. It doesn't transfer heat very well. 1/8" used to keep the steel plates from heating up at all.

Well I had a free few minutes tonight so I tore the exhaust apart and modified the muffler. I took a fair amount off the discharge side and only a little off the inlet half of the muffler.



Rough numbers show a 1/2" gain in pass floor clearance.
