Default Mid-Michigan Axle Shop

Looking to change out the gears on my '02 TJ. Currently running 3.73 with Dana 44 rear and 30 front with a lunchbox locker and a 5-speed manual tranny with 4.0L. Running 33's currently and probably will stay with them. I'm thinking 4.56's based on all that I have read but I am a little worried about wheel speed in hill climbs, etc. I pretty much trail run with the occasional mud hole and trip to the dunes. Anybody have any thoughts????

Also I'm going to have the work done as it is a little over my abilities but I am having a tough time finding a shop in the Lansing, MI area. Does anyone know of a good axle shop in mid-Michigan???

Thanks in Advance!!!

I'm sure Ken at All Pro in Lansing would do a great job for you.

www.apalansing.com

I'd recommend us, as well, but we're a bit of a drive....

Checked one shop (none of the ones listed) and quote was $1,020 for the front and $1,040 for the rear...material and labor for both. I thought that was a little steep. I figured around $1,200-$1,400 for both.

Also they indicated that i would have to change the Dana 44 carrier for 4.56's. But I have read contradictory info. Anybody have experience here?

Thx!

I love it when people ask for help, then ignore all the advice everybody takes the time to give them.

That's a smoking deal! DO IT!

Yes, you should be in the $1200-$1300 range, or less depending on which gears you go with. You will need a carrier for the D44 gears to run 3.92 or higher (numerically), or you can use a thick gear set (Rubicon gears).

To paraphrase:
