sterling 10.25 pin through diff cover

well no idea how it happen but my dad was driving my truck and well when i got it back the big pin holding the spider gears in was through the diff cover,,,,,,i havent opened it yet but any ideas what could of happen and what the damage could be and some ideas of what to do........... any ideas i dont care how expensive or how cheap

You can get complete sterling axles for about $200. Probably swap in a complete axle cheaper/easier than rebuilding a carrier and setting gears.
