Another guy spent 70% of his time on the internet, wore a baseball cap to the office and never tucked in his shirt or tied his shoes so he now has a job which is much more independant and has a future. The latest one is a dude who spends just under half the workday sleeping in the cars we run test schedules on. He will be leaving this department for another with a raise on Monday.

My reward for doing steady work, not pissing off the customer, having almost 10 years experience and a post-secondary degree, and trying to act professional while on the job is to rot in this position getting a 2% raise each april for the past three years.

So you see, work ethic often doesnt lead to success. Sometimes you have to be the right kind of douchebag in order to make it...
I suspect, that in this case, it's more of who ya know (or don't) or are related to that has helped them out.

Sol Goode works 60-70 hours every week. And I have NEVER claimed overtime, even when I was launching a vehicle and was eligible. A salaried position in my eyes is just that...salaried.

Sometimes it kinda sucks being salaried, since up until this point through out my co-oping I was hourly.

I start to think at 4:30 after all of the hourly folk have gone home and I'm still there that this is my donation to the company.

But then I think about some other stuff....like when I want to leave at 2:00 on a Friday to get out to Milan for the drags early, or take off 2 hrs in the middle of the day to babysit the cable guy, or have half a day off for my girlfriend's aunt's funeral. I get to just ask my boss and go. Hourly people have to punch out and not get paid for that time. So I guess in the long run it all evens out.

I also had another good realization this week when talking to the hourly guys I found out that my year end bonus was 10 times and then some of what they got and they have been there for 5+ years.
