Default Anyone have any real world experince

I am looking to get a programmer for my 2007 GMC serria classic. It has the 5.3 in it . Has a cold air intake and Aftermarket exhaust. I am looking at two diffrent programmers.

1. is the Bully Dog Triple Dog Gt.

And the next is.

2.Hypertech Max Energy E-Con.

Anyone that experince with these let me know the following.

1.Do they help improve mpg's?

2.Does it really make the trans shift better?

3.Does it really act as a driving coach?

Or is there a better programmer out there? Thanks for your input

depends on what your looking to do with it and how much you wanna spend? efilive is at the top of the list but it is expensive to buy. if yu have plans ffor a duramax down the road it may be worth it. just need to buy another vin unlock.

you could pay someone to design a very nice custom tune for you and just drive it?

have you ever looked up black bear performance i beleive its called. he offers tunes for life for so much money up front.

I wouldn't buy anything bullydog for any vehicle. Ever.

I also would never put a "canned" or generic tune on any of my cars. Custom tuned for your specific needs and mods are where it is at.

Ty Mason, he is on 68th and M37 in Grans Rapids, he does all the tuning on Berger Chevrolet Hi performance cars such as the Super Charged Camaro.

He uses EFI Live and a Dyno, you cannot tune a car properly without a dyno. A Tune from this guy will cost you about $500 though...but I imagine anyone you chose that knows what the F*ck they are doing and has a dyno is going to cost about the same.

I agree a custom tune is probably the way to go unless you have other needs. I got the bully dog gt gas tuner on my 5.3 because i wanted to be able to increase mpg's and firm up my shift points. The other reason i went with it is because it can read transmission temp, i can calibrate my speedo for my tire size at will (which i run different sizes through out the year) and i can calibrate my speedo for the new gears.

I am running a sierra with a 5.3 and a little over 8 inches of lift with 35's since i got the tuner and 4.56 gears and i am getting about 15 mpg if i drive conservatively(up from about 10-11 with the stock tune and about 13.5 mpg driving normal and not paying attention to the driving coach. The driving coach does help squeeze all the mpg's you can by changing some of your driving habits. I love how the transmission shifts now as well. I have noticed a bit of a HP gain but it is not massively noticeable unless your running the performance tune, and i usually run the economy tune and i can still tell a change. You can also change throttle sensitivity which i liked because i hated the lag in my trucks throttle.

All in all i am incredibly happy with it and it was the best $300 bucks i ever spent. If you buy from advance auto parts online and look up their promo codes on google you can get it down from $399 to $300 with the right code.

i dont know about with gassers but the bully dogs with diesels are known for puttin in to much timing so maybe do a little research on that before deciding on a b-dog.
