Here is a picture of the hydraulic motor attached to the axle. These motors produce approx. 150 lb/ft each and will produce a top speed btw 12 and 15 mph
with the 5.38 gears and a 31" or 35" tire. This is a hydrostatic set up and only requires 20 hp to produce the above specs. It was done this way to keep top speed down and make it very easy for a child to drive. push forward on pedal go forward backward on pedal to go in reverse

well made some more progress. mounted brake pedal and master, orbital valve and steering wheel and both motor control valves. Had the boy sit in it for layout...his face is priceless!

Ive ran a cherry shaker that is hydraulic drive pretty similar to that. It actually had a transmission (old school 4 speed) before the pump it would actually move pretty fast when you had it in forth probably about 1:1 motor to pump....

I read thru the build but are you gonna run some reduction from the motor to the pump?

*edit* actually now that i think about it, the transmission was between the hydraulic motor and the axle disregard what I said

OMG.
I forget about this build and check back in to find this!
What are you going to do with the exhaust? A 2 into 1 header that leads to a USFS-approved spark-arresting muffler would be sweet. I may have just the thing to donate to your project. It'll take some fab skills, so you might have to farm it out.

Sending a pm your way, J.

I don't think it should be allowed to have your son driving a machine that performs better, flexes better, looks better than either of my jeeps. Other than that, fantastic job and what a terrific project. I had a grandson born this week (1st :)) so I might have to think about something similar over the next few years. I'm sure he'll love it. Nice job Dad!

I was at Jeremy's shop yesterday and checked this thing out with my son. Needless to say it is pretty sweet. Now my son wants me to build him one. .

Here are some pics of 2 4 year olds sitting in it...
