Default How to know if its a 4 bolt main???

I am looking at buying a 1984 Chevy 350 small block from a pick up.
Is there any numbers on the block that will tell me its a 4 bolt main?
If so what would they be? I don't really want to pull the pan.
Thanks,
Vance

Check the #'s on pass rear of block is how to tell. google SBC block id & make a copy of id #'s to take with you. Some times though they ues same #'s for 2 & 4 bolt mains.
Sorry to say but best way to tell forsure is to pull pan.

84 is probably a 2bolt, really doesn't matter though unless you plan on spinning 7,000+

just drop the pan.

its not, that square plug is a oil feed from the lifter run. it comes on all of them.

the letter code stamped in the right hand front block boss next to the water pump has the coding for the type of engine application. other then that all blocks come from the same mold as far as castings are concerned. you can't tell without looking.
