Outstanding!!!

I really, really am interested in seeing you wheel this thing while trying to keep the body in good shape.

Not a chide, but I think you're going to redefine the word "finesse"!

They told me their policy was to price match with a written quote. I won't say how much they cost, but the savings was substantial.

Thanks Scot. I haven't figured out body armor yet, but I'll add some, I'm sure. Regardless how it turns out, I'll still wheel fairly carefully/cautiously.

Update 7/3: While Jason over at Sinister Fabworks did a nice job on the axle, I decided it needed more "hardcore", so I got in the zone by stealing one of the kids' hardcore skull water bottles with some good ol' H2O , and headed out to the garage...

...where I added some necessary, pirate-worthy "hardcore" to my newly-narrowed/trussed Dana 70U. All is now right with the world. I'm just in for some food, and then it's back outside for more work.

I got the rear Dana 44 pulled today. I absolutely LOVE working on a rust-free Jeep. All the control arm bolts, etc. came out like a breeze. I'll be starting to cut off the bracketry over the next week or two in preparation for installing the XJ brackets for Mira's XJ (build thread here).

Old wheels/tires on the front, new ones on the rear.

I don't know whether the more appropriate answer is "Mostly just a build-up of dust on the AEV hood, Nate" or "They're happening just as quickly as your project updates, Nate."

I've been working on building some bicycle racks for
my military trailer
, which I actually just wrapped up last night. I've also working on stripping the bracketry off my "old" Dana 44 rear axle in preparation for new XJ bracketry and a truss for
Miras XJ project
.

That being said, I'll hopefully have some updates on the replacement LJ front axle soon. I also want to clean up & paint the still bare D70 rear axle that I picked up from you.

Why yes...

These pics just in from UORC. It's complete minus the shafts, which should arrive tomorrow. Upon their recommendation, I'm holding off on shock mounts and sway bar mounts until it's installed in the Jeep.

I don't know if it's just the camera angle or what, but that axle looks like it belongs on a dump truck, not a 4000# Jeep!

The CJ-10a donor vehicle was rated to pull 40K lbs. It looks beefy (4" axle tubes). Despite being overkill, it has factory 35-spline shafts, a baby-butt-smooth bottom, the clearance of a Dana 60, and factory 4.88 gears. It was an easy choice, especially given that it was located only 40 minutes from my house. I just regret having sold two of these same axles in the past...wish I still had them.

With only 2.5-3"(ish) of lift when it's done, it sure should.

I got the LJ up on blocks today in preparation for pulling the front axle (new axle is en route...more details soon). This is sitting a little closer to what the finished ride height and width will be. I'm guessing it'll be 1-1.5" higher once it's actually sitting on the axles.

Long time, Adam. Thanks! Yeah, I debated how to handle the pulled 44, but it was a no-brainer for Mira's XJ given that I already owned it, the gearing was right, and it already had disc brakes.

I considered that briefly, but I'd just turn around and spend the same amount or more on outfitting a different rear axle for my daughter's Jeep. It makes no sense, especially given the lousy used parts market values here on GreatLakes. My stock axles only have 53K miles on them, so I know they should last my daughter for the life of her vehicle.

Craig

Here's the Dana 44 "deconstruction" with surgical precision at the hands of my daughter with a Sawzall.

...and with the new T&T Customs truss (I still have some grinding to do on the old bracket "residue").
