Default 2001 explorer motor options

i am picking up a 2001 explorer with a bad motor. it has a 6 cyl in it right now. will a 5.0 bolt up or do i have to stay with the 6?

You have to stay with the 6, and being a 01 it has the sohc. 00 was the last year of the ohv 6 in the 4drs.

The v6 does not share the same bell housing pattern as the 8.

thank you i dont know a damn thing about fords. a friend of mine just sold me a 2001 that is in nice shape that needs a motor for 500 bucks. now i just have to find a motor

yup, now there is a bunch of junk in the crankcase. i talked to weller and they have one for 650. im guessing after putting a motor in it and some other odds and ends i will have about 1500 buck into it total. should be a nice ride for cheap.
