Default My 04 Ford 6.0L Diesel F350 wont start in cold weather

Hey Was wondering if there is anyone who would know why my F350 won;t start in cold weather, or unless plugged in but today it barely started then died and wouldn't turn over even after being plugged in. I was told I may need new injectors? It runs great when hot and starts right up when hot. Could it be my glow plugs? Sholud I try a gas treatment to help clear things up? Anyhelp would be great. Thanks JT

Ford 6.0 diesels need at least 600 rpm to start if your batteries are weak or connections are dirty that will cause the symptoms you describe. Also glow plugs can cause there own issues some of which sound similar to what you describe.
What color smoke did it make out of the exhaust when it did start and did it clear up at all?

Could be a variety of reasons. They must see 500 ICP pressure before they will even fire the injectors so a leak in the HPOP sys. can cause a hard start as well. I have seen more problems with the High press. oil sys and FICM than glow plugs. You really need a good scan tool to start to diag. these engines.

I have the same issue with my 6.0 .... Once it finally starts is blows a plum of white smoke and runs really hard for about 30-45 seconds. It started great this morning but the 2 previous days it hard started even with it plugged in all night.

Just tried starting it after 24 hour sitting plugged in and it fired, ran rough coughed and sputtered like it wasn't getting any air or fuel and died. Couldn't get it started after that after some more try's. I hope I am not doing any more damage trying to restart it if it doensn't want to run.

This was the problem with our diesel. Our mechanic replaced them with improper CC AMP. Once we replaced with the proper, OK overkill yellow tops, we were fine.

I don't buy it is the HPOP or FICM although possible I am not thinking so right now based on what we are being told.
I have seen glowplugs go an 6.0's with 30.000 miles. The dark smoke on start up is unusual I will admit.
Make sure both batteries have good clean connections and are charged, take out your SCT program and see if it will start on the stock setting.
I have seen programs "burp" for lack of a better term. I have a 7.3 Excursion and it used to "burp" with my old programmer. I would put it back to stock and it would run fine then I would re-install the programmer and it would be fine.
Just an idea without actually having the truck here on a scanner.
