zf trans question

Ok so I'm helping my brother make his 97 f250 powerstroke 2wd a 4wd. He's got the 5 speed zf trans in it. The 4x4 zf's are hard to come by but I found a 2wd version with the brake on it and apparently you can put a transfer case on the back of this version? The brake comes off and the case goes on? Is this true and do you need something between the case and the trans? Or does the transfer case just bolt right up?

If it is the style with the brake drum on the back they are the exact same transmission as the 4x4 zf, Just pull the brake assembly off and bolt the transfer case on.

Wow, good to know, that opens the door a little at the scrap yard.
