anyone with M1-Carbine knowledge?

does anyone have any Knowledge of M1-Carbines? what the value might be.
I might be picking one up as a trade and will be flipping.

1) M-1 30 caliber carbine with sling and oiler. It has two magazines, one 5 round and one 15 round
2) receiver was made by Alpine and I guess the rest is Military.

the guy wanted to shoot NRA competition but was not allowed because of the reciever?

he says its worth $450 but I have to make sure I can get at least that out of it or tell him I need it for less. I don't want to sit on it either will it be hard to sell?

that part is pretty important. It could be a $300 gun or a $800 gun

Being it is commercial - post ww2 (alpine made them in the 60s) it will be values less than a ww2 one and have little historical or collector value. I have seen them go in the $300 range depending on when it was made. Some of the early ones were just rewelded GI receivers that had been demilled, while later ones are cast and better quality, though not nearly as good as military ones.

I know a lil about it but what I also know is this

That is income tax evasion
buying a gun with the sole purpose of selling it is a federal crime
I have taken the liberty of notifying the ATF along with the IRS via email with your phone number.
Yes I am serious

Taking a gun in on trade and then posting it for sale right away is not illegal. Every gun I have is for sale for the right amount of cash. As is my car, by buggy, my trailer, my house, etc... Stop being a douche.

Yes I am serious
a) he's not buying a gun, he's taking it in on trade
b) the specific act it's not income tax evasion. if in fact he does flip/sell the gun then he could in theory still report the income from it as earned income
c) you're a dickwad

when I said I was flipping it I was fliiping it over to the other side! lol
wtf what if this is true every gun shop in america must be doing tax evasion becasue If I take a gun in there for trade they take and give me a price and then sell it as a profit and under your definition that is tax evasion. Tax evasion is the lack of paying taxes and untill I don't pay taxes on income then there would be a problem. I have done nothing other then get info that if I got this gun as trade for my tractor and if I did sell the gun at a later date I got the exact amount it was worth and not losing money.
you could be nice about it and send a PM. If this is true I never knew it was a law and had no intensions of breaking any laws.

I am not a lawyer, but to the best of my knowledge it is not illegal in the slightest. What the guy is confused with is something known as a straw sale. When the purchaser is "buying" a gun for someone who cannot purchase it themselves.

I have bought handguns and then sold them in less time than it took for the paperwork to get finished at the PD.

There is also a "business of buying and selling guns" line somewhere. If you buy low and sell high, with the expressed purpose of making it a form of business, then you would need a FFL license. This however, is not even close to that.

As always, it someone does contact you, contact a lawyer before you say a word.
