Default 46 oil p.s.i. problem

i have a brand new 460. new high volume oil pump. and it has the roller cam bearings so they closed off the valley oil ports. was wondering if i need to use a 3/8 inch oil line to get the wright pressure reading. thanks

3/8 will not change the psi reading unless its leaking oil out of it.

not having spec'ed and assembled the engine i could not guess positively at what the psi range should be.

46 warm on a fresh build is ok though "generally" speaking.

the oil wont go up the line to the gauge. but when i take the line off it comes out fine. all holes are clear in the fittings and i can blow through the line. heiges said to run a 1/4inch copper line because all the valley ports have been closed because of the roller cam bearings.

I get the distinct impression that your engine builders don't know what the hell they're talking about! If I read your post correctly, they've completely shut off the oil flow to the rods, and mains in your engine! Did they install the correct "pointed" threaded plugs in the front, and the standard NPT plugs in the rear of the block? Did they plug the oil gallery's in the "tower" in the tappet chamber, if so - then they've probably "pre destroyed your engine"!! DO NOT RUN IT AGAIN until you / they resolve this issue! I bet they told you that they've built plenty of "record setting" Chebby's!

I'm watching you.

if the oil won't flow through the line to the gauge, then there is no oil pressure going into the line. Period.

my dads buddy came over and out of the blue he looked down in my distributor hole and saw there was not a plug in the front of the motor so it wasnt going all the way to the back of the motor and just going back down to the front. i figured if i spend 600 bucks to get my block done they would replace them after they take them out you know? my motor now has 80 p.s.i. oil. tim you kind of nailed that one on the head.
