Marine dosent earn college degree
http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapi...tml#incart_hbx
David Greeno enrolled in Grand Valley State University looking for an education like every other student. He ended up with one unlike he ever expected. The year was 2001. After Sept. 11 hit with a fury, Greeno joined the Marine Corps. He was in Afghanistan by 2002, and Iraq the following year, a combat soldier with the Marines’ 1st Division. He would rise to the rank of captain. At first, Greeno thought his pursuit of a degree in criminal justice would be interrupted. Instead, he completed it — and part of a second degree in history — through GVSU’s online education, all during two tours in Afghanistan and four in Iraq. "Basically, they set a deadline for when I had to have things wrapped up,” Greeno said. “It was less formal than sitting in class, and I could keep working on it when I had down time.” College leaders might not have had such long-distance learning in mind, but Greeno’s progress from the other side of the world shows its potential. Once out of the service, Greeno completed his second bachelor’s in 2009. Now the 30-year-old Caledonia man he is pursuing a master’s in education — again online — while working with special-needs students in Kentwood. There were challenges. Greeno didn’t always have access to a printer, or even a computer, borrowing a buddy’s laptop until he was able to obtain one. "It’s not like I was sitting in Baghdad ordering a textbook from Amazon.com,” he said. “There were times when I had to be away from the computer for a bit, and the GVSU people understood that.” He communicated with professors and classmates via e-mail and the university’s website. “It wasn’t always easy because of the time difference,” Greeno said. “They’d be going to bed when I’d be getting up.” He said he would make sure to stop on the Allendale campus during his short leaves, seeing professors face to face time before heading back. He prefers not to elaborate on his experiences at war, but said the classes were often a welcome distraction. “There were times when we were doing something and I’d catch myself thinking, ‘Oh, I should have said that on my term paper,’” he said. “But I appreciated it. There were times when it brings you back home, for a little bit.” + [url]http://www.mlive.com/ Last edited by clarkstoncracker; February 19th, 2013 at 12:35 PM. |

its a hard thing to do... he had it a tiny t bit easier because hes an officer (imo) my buddy is trying it right now and it seems to be very challenging for him. i am debating on this still. i don't want to bite off more than i can chew. its always nice to hear success stories though.. and i may add hes having a hard time just in the beginning no degrees yet. i couldn't imagine the added pressure for a masters. great job though

He's right, this was all a lie and was pulled from mlive immediately after investigations that he was a fraud. He was living with my family at the time when the truth came out. My family opened their doors to a supposedly injured ex-Marine who said he had been in an IED explosion that killed 2 other Marines and subsequently earned a medal for his service. He lived with my family rent and board free for several months, based on my family's desire to give back to a wounded vet suffering from PTSD. He carried on his lies at the school he worked for, appeared in newspaper articles, took advantage of every military discount available at local stores, pretended to go to the VA, and even served as a trainer for my brother who was prepping to enter the Marines and accompanied my family to the recruiter's office the day he shipped off to boot camp. He even had the nerve to give my brother a bible that he said was passed down in his family and was with him when he served in the mideast. After years of carrying on the charade, it eventually came out that he was never even in the military. The injuries done to my family on an emotional level were palpable. He lost his job as a consequence and was kicked out of our house. I don't believe he was ever criminally prosecuted for the fraud he committed. He is a sad, crazy liar that taints the true honor of real servicemen. The worst part was that he didn't recognize what he did was wrong and thought he should get just as much sympathy as a real vet.

Yes, I have a picture of him hugging my brother the day he left for Marine boot camp. He is an avg height Caucasian male, he was a somewhat overweight 1.5 years ago and also had a shaved head at the time. I don't want to post a photo of him because I don't think it's ok to post photos of someone without their permission, and for as awful a thing that he did, I don't want any physical harm to come to him. He has something wrong with him and needs therapy more than anything else.

Sorry to hear about what he did to your family. Immortal, I think, was asking for your photo to see how many people here might know him.
Sounds like a crazzzzy dude.

Sounds crazy but I also find it a little odd that both people calling BS on him have made their first 2 posts in this thread. If what they said is true then bravo to them for stepping up and calling the guy out, but still seems a little fishy to me.
