They are great from all the footage I've seen done with them so far. Some of the Extreem Skiing movie makers have used them exclusively.
Check out this trailer:
Good stuff starts at 1:12

Hmmmmm

I love mine, and can't believe how great of footage it shoots for such a tiny thing.

I got it a year ago, and am going to get the rear screen and battery pack/charger for it as well.

It shoots very stable video.

I'm loving the videos, We're going to Hawaii for our 30th anniversary, and we've found a place with ziplines that we're going to hit. One line is 3600 foot long, and another at the same place has a 500 foot change in elevation and you can hit 55 mph on it. I figure even if I'm crapping my pants on the way down I'll be able to get good video. That and the case is good to over 100' under water so it should be great for snorkeling too.
Porter, do you have the 1080p or the 960? Price difference is about $100, and from what I've read so far most people don't need the 1080. Although, that model does offer the 720p @ 60 fps, so you can get some cool slo mo with it. What's your thoughts?

I bought myself one for christmas last year. Very happy with it - it takes some very good still photos as well.

Just seeing this now.

I have the 1080.

720 takes some amazing video. I actually just started to use 1080 exclusively, as it shows that extra edge for details. Bad side is the files are larger, but I have added memory to the puter for editing after and it works well.

I haven't used the 60 frames much yet or slo-mo.

I picked up the Hero 960 a few weeks ago on sale at Best buy for $150.

I put it on AlumCJ's rig at the Rausch Creek Qualifier and it came up with some good video, just haven't had time to chop it up into youtube vids. Since that is where most of the video I shoot will go, I couldn't see a reason to pay extra for the upgrade.

Can you pllug the HERO camera directly into a TV with AV inputs? It seems like if you have a nice 1080 HD TV, then the upgrade would be worth it, assuming the camera supports being plugged directly into a TV for viewing.

Yes, you can plug it in directly, the cables are included with the camera.

I love the camera, but I wish I had owned it longer before i went on vacation. It would have helped with a couple of issues I had when using it.

1. Make sure you use the "nose plug" that comes with it for the mount, it makes a huge difference in the amount of noise that comes through the case.

2. If you are using it underwater either buy the dessicant packs or place the camera and case open in a refrigerator for about 10 minutes and close it before removing from the fridge. Otherwise you will get condesation between the camera lens and the case lens.

3. Buy the tripod adapter. I was getting some great views of some Spinner Dolphins swimming next to our boat, but with the waves, I couldn't keep the camera underwater, so you see Dolphins then air then dolphins. With the tripod mount and a telescoping monopod(?) stick, I could easily have kept the camera in the water and got some fantastic video.

Even with the minor hiccups the video I have is great, I just need to edit all the short sections into one or two longer videos. Also, I used the strap on style helmet mount with the strap around my hand when snorkeling and that worked great. I just kept my hand out in front of me while swimming and could aim the camera where ever I wanted.
