Does it come with the metal retaining ring for on top of the rubber boot? I am wondering how much the offset is, I think it might be too much for my 5, I'm running a T-177 with the D-300. Have not thought about it till now, is it possible for the levers to be too close to the trans shifter pattern and interfere?

No metal retaining ring. This could be fabricated pretty easily if needed.
I believe the levers should clear your T-177 shifter rod. If worst gets to worst after installation, you could use a torch the "fine tune" the final position of the levers. I've had to do that before on my CJ.
Hope this helps...
