Default Ford Techs 2004 Mountaineer

Friend of mine has a 2004 Mountianeer with the 4.0 and AWD. About 80,000 miles.

He said this morning he heard a noise and the car seemed sluggish like he was dragging something. From what he described I started to think it was the transfer case. He had it towed to my place and all seemed fine when I test drove it.

I think the AWD transfer cases have issues, any ideas what I should be looking for?

And does the Airbag Module need to be reprogrammed after the bags go off? It was in a front end crash and he had a guy fix it but I don't think he replaced the seat belts, not sure if they need to be. It was not that hard of a crash but enough for the bags to go off. I saw it before it was fixed and really it was not bad.

If the bags went off it will need a new module. Also the pre-tensioner(s) probably went off as well. I would advise to pull codes on the air bag sys. as you will be able to figure out what else needs to be replaced.

He said he did replace the module but I think it needs seatbelts.

Thanks.

The new module will need to be set-up/programmed as well.
