The 2nd pcm Jim sent me was from a 2006 van. Limp mode. and the motor ran like shit.
Troy said the 1993 trans will not work with a newer pcm set up for drive by cable. Which was proven correct by the last computer I had in it. He explained why but to be honest it went right over my head.
The trans works perfectly, it's a matter of setting up the computer to read it correctly.

That's where the issue came in with Jim .....he made the computer for a 2006 4l80 which is from what i've been told, a very diff animal then the 1993.

Glad you are getting positive results. I never recommended or considered Howell because I thought they made their own stuff. I didn't realize they would do custom work like you are getting done. With that, sounds like we have a better solution here in Michigan.

I know I sure am happier being able to physically take the jeep there and talk with the people doing the work face to face.

This thread is a perfect example of buying a donor vehicle for a few extra bucks, vs trying to part together junkyard shit

Very true. Little late for me, but hopefully someone else will be saved the frustration from reading this. At least all my "junkyard shit" works, it's just not playing nicely with the computer.

some people have the patience, the know how, and the ability to work with junkyard shit. I am not one of those people. If I embark on a project like this I try to find a donor vehicle so I at least know everything is compatible, then I can rebuild things from there, modify harnesses, computers, etc.

It's gonna be pretty sweet when you are done, Hope you get it all sorted here soon.

Here's the latest rundown. The computer Troy programed is a keeper, when it was test driven yesterday it was in 4lo (shifter is opposite what it used to be and it was pouring down rain there, was a quick run) Troy took it for another test drive today in 2 wheel drive and it shifted "pretty good" and thru all gears. Still pulling no codes and idling as it should, no backfires no missing.

This is what he still will be doing: Adding a wire from computer to ground 02 sensors.(With all the mismatched parts the harnass that is there was not grounding them), adding a wire for check engine light on dash, adding a torque converter clutch wire to harnass and a 4x4 switch wire as well.

Troy and Tom talked and decided it would still be best to change the valve body to a newer one to improve the shifting to better then "pretty good" and have it work better with the computer. So I will be picking it up from Troy Friday am and dropping it off to Tom probably Friday pm and praying all weekend that all goes well.Tom has already ordered the parts. May have to take it back to Troy one more time to be scanned afterwards if needed.

Haggar, the program you sent is a seperate program just for the tranny. The programs they use are a combo motor/trans program. He did print it off and is keeping it in case he runs into these issues again. Thanks for digging that up!

Any reason not to go full manual valve body? Seems like it would fix a lot of shifting issues, and is good for use on the rocks and for racing.

Only reason being my kid drives it too and I do drive it around town a little bit. I will almost always shift in manually offroad anyway.

Just picked the jeep up from Howell and dropped it off at Toms. We had been testing the jeep with the 02's unplugged because they weren't grounded. When Troy grounded them he realized they weren't the correct sensors. Care to guess who told us what sensors to get?????? Anyway, back on track, motor runs great, i'm very happy. Shifts a lot better too, but Tom and Troy decided it best to still change the valve body and put a switch in for 4lo. So that's where it is now, at Tom's waiting for him to hopefully put in the final touches. Troy says if we have any issues give him a call or bring it out and he will scan it again. Now THAT"S customer service!
