My moms cousin was a fire chief in Detroit. He said that the majority of the fires he had to go to around Christmas time were a results of someone using a real tree. He always told anyone in the family that he would rather buy a nice fake tree for them than see them use a real tree. He always told the story of the family of 5 (Mom and 4 kids) that died Christmas night.

i have grown up on and always will use live trees.. just aint Christmas without em....just keep you a good fire extinguisher handy and water it daily and be sure to turn the power off the tree at night..and keep candles /sources of fire away from that sucker and you should be alright...

oh and just to be safe inspect your lights and electrical connections prior to putting em on the tree to insure you rule out any defective or broken, possible electrical contacts....

just my .02 cents....

maier
