My wife is addicted to running and as such I run a few races a year with her. Next race is a 5 mile in Dallas on 1/1/11.

She does lots of Half and full marathons... I stop at 8k's. Anything over that and I will ride the bike.

I've just never been able to get into running. I'd like to get back into biking though.

I have been to the podiatrist and have the shoes he recommended with custom orthodics. He thinks I built up a lot of calcifications on my tendons because I started running when I was like almost 300lbs. I also do special stretches and have to sleep in a walking cast at times to help.

I just bought the Suunto t3d training watch and this thing Rocks. Tells you heart rate, current pace, miles ran, calories burned, average pace and training effect. Highly recommend, Not cheap, the watch, chest belt, (HR monitor) and foot pod was $290 at Playmakers in Okemos.

That's cool, my daughter runs cross country and track in high school and my wife too is addicted to running. The wife and I do Half Marathons, her more than I. I did a sprint Tri last year and the swimming part sucked. Between the three of us running, I spend about $1100 a year on running shoes. Have fun in Dallas>

I used to run back in the day - before gel shoes, pronation correction, etc...

Now my knees make noise.

I ride when it's warm enough and row the rest of the time.

Low impact.

And as a Garmin bigot I do use a Forerunner 305 with heart monitor and it is very cool.

I try to do between 6 and 8 miles three days a week and then try to do between 10 and 18 Fridays and Sundays. I got out of it for a bit in August through October after my daughter was born (and paid for it when I ran the Marine Corps Marathon on Halloween) but have already done about 60 miles this month.

I also use a Garmin Forerunner and heart rate monitor but quit using it lately on my longer runs and only use it on days when I am running 5 miles or less or doing a lot of sprints. I normally use RunKeeper on my iPhone to track my routes and miles.
