anybody have any leads on a full width ford 44 complete? I am thinking of switching to a high pinion since I have to buy gears anyway......

I guess all I really need is the housing, then swap my EB stuff onto it after I shorten it.

Alright, little help please. If I decide to go high pinion I was thinking keeping it full width since I have 2" spacers anyway, any who, what can I keep from my eb axle, like shafts and carrier. What will swap over?

If I decide to shorten it will I be able to use my EB chromo stuff?

The full width is about 6" wider correct?

Thanks

You can take the full width and cut 6"s off the pass side to match an eb. You can reuse the carrier regardless of hp or lp. I think the drivers side inner is .5" shorter on the inner.

The driver side is shorter on which one?

So if I leave it full width, I only need to get another passender side chromo shaft? I can use the drivers EB shaft?

Thanks for that. Looks like I might be able to reuse the short side inner, but like you said it is about 1/2" shorter.

It comes with shafts, I might just run em till they break.

Stripped the front axle of it's gears today and shipped em off for warranty approval. I hope they cover them.

So here is my plan, may change, but as of right now, I am picking up a FW HP D44 tomorrow. I am thinking of just leaving it full width and removing the spacers I have in the front, so I will be about 1" or so wider in the front than I am in the rear.

Only issues right now, I need a new carrier for the HP gears, they don't sell thick cut gears for HP to correct like the LP. ~$65
Need to buy HP 4.88 gears ~$178 for yukons
I need to buy 6 weld in bungs for steering and track bar. ~$44
I need to fab a new track bar mount for the axle and new longer track bar, drag link and tierod....so 10' of DOM ~$60
then maybe one chromo long side shaft ~$130

So a total of about ~$477 then shipping.

SO would it be worth putting the money into the HP or just leave the LP, replace the gears, if not warrantied, ~$220 then just run it and save for my 1 ton rig?

what do ya all think??

In my opinion your gears were junk. You were in no way beating it hard enough to break it. But, i had a high pinion and if i walked by it to fast it broke. so take it for what it is worth.

Well, lets just find out what Yukon is gonna do. I am kinda bummed about it breaking so easy. Hell, inside the case had rub marks from the ring gear bolts since it pushed over so much.

BTW, picked up a HP FW 44 yesterday with 4:10's so I have most of it now if I wanna go HP.
