Edit - Thanks guy....I ended up buying a brand new '06 YFZ 450. woot!

I'm looking for a used YFZ450. Preferably an '04 but it doesn't have to be.
However, the the engine has to be completely stock.

Whatcha got?

well I know this isnt exactly what you want but I will throw it out there. I have a 2005 honda trx 450R that I bought new completly stock. I have AC racing nerf bars, and a tether switch asking $4500. I can tell you this I owned a 2004 YFZ450 and it was a fun quad but sold it due to how many problems I had with it. I bought my honda and never looked back not one problem.

I'll think about it.
I had a 400ex that was a good quad but my heart is set on the YFZ450.
I'll keep you in mind though.

Thanks!

Is it in Essexville? I saw one in Essexville for $4500 in the Cycle Trader magazine.

make sure if you get a 04 that the decompression plug has been replaced with a billet aluminum one, the seal for the water cooler has been replaced, and ask if the battery has been replaced. I bought an 04 new, three of buddies got them and all 4 of us had to replace each part that I just listed. The YZF450 is a fun quad has MX handling characteristics out of the box, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I love the look of the '04. I think the white & red look sharp. But with the bank, if I finance over $5,000 i have to put insurance on it. So I was thinking of buying used. But, used the APR would be 9.25%. If I bought an '06 with the blue on blue, the APR would be 8.75% for 72 months or 8.25% for 60 months. I deal with Wanigas in Bay City/Wanigas and wouldn't look at a different CU. They are the best, IMO. I looked at a progressive quote that's like $400 a year with no collision just comprehensive.

I don't want to race it. I thought I was going to race my 400ex but I just don't have the time. I love the dunes so I spend most of my time there but I might do some trail riding in the UP and some up north. I don't like all the trails up north because there are too many drunks on 'em. That doesn't mix IMO.

I won't deal with the credit card stuff...and I won't finace through Yamaha. I've dealt with Wanigas (credit union in Bay City/Saginaw) for a long time and I've gotten a few loans through them. No games and no gimmicks. The local financing with the really low payments are rip offs. The interest rates sky rocket at the end of the term and when you try to refinance it the value is less than you owe. It's a rip off...I won't go there. I'll only deal with my local credit unions/banks. I prefer to finance with people that I can see/meet face to face.

I bought my '04 YFZ450 new and have NEVER had a problem with it. No battery issues, decomp plug falling out (although I did replace mine), and no coolant leaks. You must have got one of the early model '04 ones before they had all the bugs worked out.

I've seen a few stock ones sell for as little as $3,500. I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

I have over $2,500 extra invested into mine and I doubt that I could get $5K for mine. Don't pay more than $4K for a stock '04! They're out there - just be patient.

Just saw one on Craigslist.org in the Detroit region that looked like a good buy.

Really?
I was looking at some and they were all over $5,000. I saw a couple in the auto-rv but nothing I was really impressed with. The thing is....I'm noticing that they are hard to come by. There aren't very many for sale. Hondas are like a dime a dozen...they're are lots out there for sale.

I'm still debating on buying new or used. For a used one, under $5,000, for a year of payments it'd be $983.16. For a new one (including insurance) it's $1405.56 for an entire year. That's $422.40 more in my pocket every year. The thing with the older quad is that my APR sky rockets so I don't know.

Do you guys think an 04 is not the best year? Maybe I should try to get an 05 or something? What's your opinions??

I would get an 05 if I were you, then you dont have to worry about the bugs that lurked in many 04's. But if you do want an 04 you can find an one for prolly $4300ish. my buddy sold his 04 about two weeks ago in less then a week for $4600. I sold mine this this february in three days for $4900 bone stock in great shape, guy came all the way from wisconsin (I think I may have spelled that wrong)! There was a 04 YZ on www.trx450r.org in the classifieds for 3800 in Michigan. If you can get one for $4k or under your getting a great deal

well good luck with your search, whichever you choose TRX or YZ I would love to go ride at the track sometime. Log road has three more practice dates this year and Techumseh Pro source is open all winter long.
