sealing a water jacket

i have a leaky water jacket on my mid 70's 302v8. I took the bolt out and let the coolant drain out. What type of sealer is needed? I have RTV black and Grey. Thanks.

what do you mean by water jacket? and what bolt?

Normally, blue RTV is used for "water", and black for oil.

if your talking about a head bolt in a water passage leaking, you need a product called hylomar. its a white paste looking stuff. comes in a tube like rtv.

if its a head bolt leaking i would just run a good block sealer in your antifreeze and it will seal it up. if its a core plug then knock it out and get a new one and put some #2 permatec around the whole before you knock in the new one. thats all we do when we install them at our shop. we do them all day long like that and they dont leak.

fwiw you shouldnt use silicone on stuff like that cause it hardens and will clog where as #2 stays plyable so if it gets into the system it will just get chopped up by the water pump or pushed through a whole were silicone would normally clog.
