I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing...my guess its both

http://www.freep.com/article/2010110...rector-resigns The director of the state Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Rebecca Humphries, will leave her post at the end of the year to take a job as director of the 18-state Great Lakes-Atlantic region of Ducks Unlimited, headquartered in Ann Arbor.

Humphries held various jobs at the department since she joined it in 1978, including director of its wildlife division. She is an avid waterfowl and turkey hunter. Her replacement will be chosen by the state’s new governor.

Environmental groups praised Humphries’ handling of the complex DNRE, which deals with wildlife and conservation as well as air and water quality.

“She was a pragmatic leader who never let politics or paperwork get in the way of her commitment to Michigan’s people and their natural resources,” said Chris Kolb, director of the Michigan Environmental Council.

Humphries is the first female director of any of Ducks Unlimited’s four regions, said spokesman Tony Dolle. The nonprofit is 73 years old; it works to protect birds and waterfowl and their habitat.

Sounds like a good thing, but we'll have to wait and see who the replacement is.

All the more reson to be glad that she's not running the DNRE anymore. With Ducks Unlimited she will not be directly making public policy for Michigan.

If you had asked me an hour ago if she was an outdoorswoman (is that politically correct) I would have laughed at you. I did not know her background or personal interests before reading that article.

Now if an avid duck hunter ran the DNRE that way, including the director's orders she gave us, can you imagine how bad it would/could be if the next DBRE head is NOT an outdoors-oriented person?
