Default FE 360 Trans. Option

I have a 72 F250 with what i believe is a FE 360? and has 4 speed 2wd manual trans. I would like swap in a 3 speed non OD trans. like a C6? First what year trans. do i need to look at? I'm looking for a new or re-manufactured one with a warranty. My second question is what Torque convert will i use? My Concern is being a 72 and a manual will i be able to get a convert that pilot bearing hole is the correct size.

Thanks in advance for any info you have!

You look like you are questioning the fact that it is a 360. 352, 360 and 390's are all cast from the same block. So engine size wont make a difference.

As for the automatic trans I dont have a clue, they drive me nuts. you will have to find one that will bolt to an FE because the small and non FE big blocks are different. If the trans you have is an NP435, then you have my favorite Ford trans. Why would you want to swap?

Any C6 that will bolt to an FE motor will work

Buy a torque converter to match the trans

Pilot bearing is a non issue, you will need to dump the flywheel and buy a flexplate that fits the motor and matches the trans/converter type.
