It's keyed though and my steering wheel has no 'center' like a modern wheel.

When I am going straight everything 'should' just line up.

Well... got lots done. But we didn't get the winch mounted. I blew a breaker in the garage and the neighbor had already gone to bed and I didn't want to wake her to get it flipped.

We have 90% of the mount done though.

Just finished catching up on the last few pages... great stuff man. As many have said, there's an awful lot of us that would like to do something just like this someday, you're providing great inspiration

BTW, why do you need the neighbor to flip a breaker for your garage????

Because I work in HER garage

I don't have a garage. I have a really heavy extension cord I run my welder on from my house. (smaller city lots) I forgot, and we plugged the welder into her garage outlet and it pops the breaker over there almost every time.

Flatty rocked at Snorfari... pics to come as I find them online.

i was saying adjust your drag link til your pitman is straight with the tires straight.. i used a stock waggy drag link with my steering and had to cut about 6 threads off in order to make it short enough.. but thats with waggy axles on a SAS s10

I figured it out Friday the pitman arm is keyed different than the old one. One was keyed at the one o'clock postion and the other at 11. Plus the steering stops on the axle are different Jacob said.

You guys don't get it... there is no 'center' as you would think of it. My steering wheel has no 'center.' It is a tractor steering wheel essentially. If I disconnect the box I can spin it like a wheel and roundy round it goes, just a bar on bearings with a steel tractor steering wheel on top. My pitman arm faces straight ahead and I go straight no matter what.

We figured out what the problem is, I just put a TJ pitman arm on the J20 box. The TJ pitman arm is indexed differently then the original J20 Pitman arm. To fix the problem I need a longer draglink then I have, this will allow me to force the wheels further to the right and get my turning radius to the right back, the correct pitman arm probably would work as well.

Yup, I agree. I waited on the top of every hill waiting to strap, and hardly ever got hooked to you guys! That thing amazed my wife and I both We're ATV riders, and that willys is kind of a cross between the two...

It was nice meeting you two, looking forward to wheeling again with you both soon.

Can you just file out a few more teeth and reindex the pitman arm so you don't have to do that?

Should be able to, just have to take it back off and try, Adam had suggested that as well.

I did this with a YJ pitman arm to work on a CJ, should work just fine.

Because it isn't mounted yet

I or Adam need to finish welding up and fabbing the mount plate, drill the holes and wire it up. I really need a 220V welder to do this, and he just sold his and I don't own one. Driving to my dad's to do it in single digit temps doesn't sound fun right now because I don't have a top for the jeep.
