Doubt anyone could say the same for a 700r4.
Mine is a trailer queen toy. I miss OD for 3 reasons.
Example #1) Playing at the dunes. I enjoy putting up to the bottom of a hill & standing on it for a climb. Crest the hill, want to cruise to the next hill and I am limited in speed.
Example #2) Trail riding at Rocks & Valleys. Come out of a trail & need to run down the main road to the next trail that is less than 1/8 mile away. I can't keep up with everyone else unless I upshift.
Example #3) Sure it's not a daily driver but I have driven in Canada, Moab & South Dakota where the trail head/ exit is 10 - 40 miles away. OD sure would be nice in these situations.

Driveline = TH350, Atlas 3.8, 4.88 gears & 39" tires. So, I am not geared extremely low like many running a 4:1 t-case and 5+ gears but it's still a nusiance.

I have a couple of days before I need to decide, but I'm questioning whether I want a FMVB or not. I'm starting to think that it would be great 10% of the time and a pain in the ass 90% of the time. I need to order a shifter so kinda need to make up my mind. Thoughts?

full auto. I watch these guys clickety clacking from R to 1st & back again. Some are very fast at it but not too many. I have my gates set up so I can slam from R to D & back again. And since the valve body is doing all the work, it always starts in first. How many times do you actually see someone intentionally start out in 2nd or 3rd? It works really good when going up something steep & then needing to back out right away if things go wrong.

I bought a Hurst V-matic ratchet shifter with the intentions of being able to upshift as I wanted. I found while bouncing around it's very hard to hit the shift points just right. It's much easier to let the trans do it. Same for downshifting. I can pull it down if I want but I find that when I roll up to something and want it to downshift, just standing on the throttle & letting the trans perform the way it's designed seems to work well. About the only time I intentionally pull it down into first is for compression braking while on a steep descent.

Barn night in order soon......

Agreed on let it shift as it wants to. last thing you'll want to do is be in a corner hitting a rut needing to grab a gear while both hands are locked on the wheel.

I wish my wheeling rig had power steering... I've nearly broken both thumbs several times at BigBChevy's.

Any thoughts on a way to put hydraulic dampers on a 404 front???
