Default Pit Trash Shoot out @ Bundy Hill *pics*

Had 5 vehicles (in the 42" and under class) compete in the first Pit Trash Shoot out. The course was quite challenging and took it's toll.

Saturdays results

1st - cruiserjg 8 min 44 sec - sacrificed the motor in doing so

2nd - buggy on Rockwells - finished just under the 45 minute mark, winched several times, ripped the boatside sheeting off, lost a drive belt and an electrical issue, but were able to get it fixed on the trail just in time to fly across the finish line just under the cut off time

3rd place - timed out at the bottom of Warn Valley - this was his second run, his first run ended by timing out in the tire pit. Sacrificed the hood and cowl on the 2nd run, but thanks to some creative winching was able to save the windshield frame

4th place - broke the steering box just before Warn Valley on the rock in the previous picture

5th place - this crazy high powered buggy with all the bells and whistles (except a winch, "cause we don't need one") was the first to blow through the course in over 9 minutes. Not to be beat by a Suzuki, they threw out their time on the first run only to get hung up and turned sideways between 2 trees and a large boulder.

biggest smile I've ever seen on a guy who just smoked a motor

3rd place

pics of the first run

climbing the first hill

the rear diff was caught real hard on the loader tire

winching wasn't really helping. Winch wasn't pulling hard enough at first, then added the snatch block and then had plenty of pulling power, just couldn't get the tire to let loose.

descending the hill just after the tire pit

the placement of this boulder between the trees was not kind to hood and the like

winching (actually had a winch weight)

laying on the tree

new beauty marks

hood and cowl

bottom of Warn Valley

and this is where the run ended

great reporting as usual! But what place did you get? I would think your Hemi screaming through the course would have been a nice addition.

4th place

I only was able to get 2 pics. I would have taken more pics except right after the tire pit I ran over to Warn Valley to get a good spot for pics and waited and waited and waited only to hear he broke his steering box on the large boulder, between the trees just before Warn Valley.

going up the first hill. this took a heavy right foot and some good traction (or a winch)

winching out of the tire pit

I thought about it. Didn't get up in time for the drivers meeting, but when I got there they were pretty flexible and would have let me compete. But at $300 I wasn't exactly excited about that part. I know, just win right? But with only 5 other competitors would my $300 have only turned into $600 only to probably sacrifice an $800 hood Both Jeeps w/ factory sheet metal dented their hoods on the same tree. The suzuki was protected w/ rub rails and both buggies hit their cages hard. Plus, I had never been to the park before. If that one part of the course gets changed I will be in for sure next time Either that or I will just have to launch over that rock away from the tree and hope for the best.

2nd place - buggy on rockwells

entering the course - heavy right foot required

bottom of Warn Valley

sacrificing sheet metal

smokin' the tires in the rocks

winching no-no number 1 (no tree saver)

winching no-no number 2 and 3. No tree saver and I'm pretty sure they could have found a bigger tree.

Great job Jon and Paul!
Paul (not me) got his butt kicked being a spotter. I think he ran a mile with a hi-lift on the first run (not sure where he got it from, but he was gone for about 15 minutes before he came back with it). Pulling cable and moving rocks and stumps did him in on the 2nd run. You guys did do a good job though
Too bad about the hood and cowl, but good job on saving the windshield frame.

Thanks John.

Yeah, they weren't real strict on the use of a winch weight, use of tree savers and using a solid winch point (poor little innocent tree ) They did however have tree savers set up on the course, attached to big sturdy trees, where they figured most people would need winching and these did get used. They also had 2 vehicles set up as winch points

I'm sure they will address this at the next comp...hopefully it's just a rookie, 1st time event mental lapse. The good thing is nobody got hurt

Was Corey going down Warn Valley just playing around since there were no other competitors or was this planned for the guys on the big tires?
