any suggestions on spray foam insulation in my house

Well I knocked out a cieling in my living room to make cathedral cielings. Now I am getting ready to insulate it and I am not sure exactly what to do. I am leaning towards spray foam since you can get a high r value with a small amount of it and I don't want to use insulation bats since my trusses range for 16 inches to 35 inches apart. Any suggestions?

IDK if you plan on doing this yourself, I had a crawl space and all rim joists of my house done recently and very happy with results, plus I'll get a tax break for this. I can get you the company name if wanted. I went with an open cell spray foam that gave an R19value.

That would be great, what kind of thickness did you do? I will have someone else do it also I don't want to dick with it myself. Do you remember the price per sq foot?

They didn't quote a price per square foot but just the job. They crew did more than the quote and cleaned up very good. I am happy with the job.
The company is RetroFoam 1-866-900-3626.
I would recommend that you contact them for a price quote. I think they are out of Flint.

Good Luck

HOme Depot runs a 99 cent/ sq speical for blown in fiberglass. That includes 6" of insulation, can covers and attic chutes if you need them. 11" of insulating is $1.70/sq foot.

The biggest thing to know is how your house attic is vented ie. cans, ridge, gable or soffit vent. Making it a cathedral will change the way your roof needs to to be vented. For cathedral you need to use soffit vents with air way ran between your trusses from a can or ridge vent down to a soffit or dip edge vent.

In the section that I have already done (and getting ready to rip out) I made a 2" air gap and then drilled a series of holes at the bottom that goes into another crawl space and I have a ridge vent. It should get good airflow through there.

Might need to check into that. I "think" my house is pretty good, but it is pretty easy to loose a few hundred dollars worth of heat.

Well I had the guy that 1badzuk suggested come out on friday. Very friendly, knowledgable person. It ended up being 2.00-2.50 a square foot for 6 inch thick open cell foam. Planning on calling him later today after I am done with jury duty to schedule him to come do it. I will post pics after it is all done!

What is thick open cell foam? Is that cellulose or fiberglass or something different?

Home Depot is 99c a square foot for blown in fiberglass
