Well im buying the truck chassis off from a friend and he doesnt know what axles are in it. All he know for sure is that it was a stock 72 chevy 1 ton 4x4 that he took the body off to put on another truck when the motor went. I work at a parts store so i just looked up what a 72 would come with and thats what they had from the factory. And if my books are right being that it is an auto truck it should have 4.10 gears and stick shift 1 tons were suppose to be 4.56's . But that is the only part i'm not 100% on. Like i said im just trying to get someone lined up to buy them so there not sitting in my garage forever. I'm going to his house monday and making sure thats what they are for sure before i bring it home.

ok i went and looked at the frame and axles today and it's not what i was told. But heres what it is it is a 72 3/4 ton full frame leaf springs and axles has every thing between the tires as far as brakes hubs knuckles and stuff. the frame is clean and in good shape same with the axles it's not all rotted out. I'm 99 percent positive it's a d44 front and the rear was a 12 bolt rear cover but also had a 10 bolt drop out third member like a ford 9" I still dont know what gears are in it or if it is a posi, limited slip, or open i didnt have the time to pull any covers of to look but everything moved freely and wasn't in bad condition. If anyones interested let me know id like to try and get $450 for the whole thing. There was no more trans or tcase my friend thought he still had it but he doesnt. So im looking to sell the frame and axles w springs as a whole for $450 obo shoot me an offer if your interested

If it's a '72 it will be an Eaton HO72 rear and Dana 44 front, most likely 4.09/4.11 gears but it could be 4.56. The front could be disk or drum, open or closed knuckle.

So I take it you didn't open the rear axle up? Did you take any pictures of the axle because there were are two eaton axle Ho52 5200lb rating and Ho72 7200lb rating all have a drop out third member. The few eaton HO72 I have see had no spin diff or Detroit and 4.10, 4.57, 5.13 r/p

IIRC
HO52 (3/4)
17spline shafts
1.75 shafts neck down to 1.5
ring gear: 12.5 (iirc)
Stronger then FF14 bolt
Carriers: Open, No spin, Detroit (from factory)

it definatly had a drop out third member just like the ford 9". I know that for sure because it stuck out bc i had never seen that on a gm truck before. And no i didn't open up the rear it was getting dark and i didn't want to start pulling bolts off and lose any bc of poor light.
