my 79 did the samething i had a bad bearing drivers side in the rear

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. Dave and Rich got me straightened out. Quite literally. Dave hooked me up with an alignment. That was part of the problem. The other part was/were bad tires. The tires had been hot knifed and were not done so symetrically. (the guy I bought them from went deeper in some areas compared to others) After the alignment and installing different tires the hop went away.
