Wheeling in grand haven area

Ok so this is a bit of a long shot but I'm planning on going to salmon and wine this september and will be in grand haven from the 17th ish to the 21st. I want to bring the xj out with me and if I do I will need some locals to help with good areas to wheel and maybe recover my noob ass when (not if) I get stuck. Anyone in the area want to do some m&g with wheeling?

This is going to be in September, not August. It doesn't have to be in GH, just within reach from that area. I can find my way back to my uncle's with my phone, but I know when I was there last year in Sept. on the way in and out I saw a ton of GL stickers on the freeway, on the roads, and parked in every parking lot around me. Someone out there has to know of good areas. I don't know the exact area I'll be in but they live right around their Little Caesars store on Robbins. I can hop over to 31 and steer North if need be. What good (legal) spots are within reach, and who wants to go?

This is your only option.

These people were more than likely returning from Silver Lake.

Well since it's gonna be sept. I won't be able to do anything that weekend.
That's the weekend I am getting married, so I will be jam packed with things going on. I'm sure someone will get a group together and u can join them. I would join too but like I said, I'll be busy.

Come to think of it, I was in the Twin Lake area for the fourth last year and recall there being a lot of ORV maps at gas stations and such. We tried to take the CJ out on some trails, but it wound up not happening. I will investigate this further. Thanks guys.

It's been a loooooong time since there has been a West Side area trail ride, other than the private clubs, that I know of. Maybe September would be a good time to put together one.

there are a few spots in grand haven, and the grand haven area. buchanan trail comes to mind, but the last time I mentioned it everyone jumped down my throat. IT IS A ROAD! Had 2 state boys out there and one asked the land owner, said vehicles are allowed, but no atvs, dirtbikes... road legal vehicles only. haven't been out there in a while, so I don't know what its like out there, but the last time I got stuck for 2 hours cuz everyone else had street tires and couldn't get any grip to yank me out.

That you know of...
There is a trail ride(almost) everyother weekend.
We ride the Montague, Twin Lake, Newaygo, Hesperia and Whitecloud
areas quite a bit.
The new MVUM has made it easier for us to get out and play w/o worries of the dreaded tickets; However, they are not a perfect maps, we have found several mis-marked trails.
Get the maps, use your heads and have fun.

There are some areas off m120 on sweeter road, but all the fun stuff out that way isn't legal, you can drive the two tracks, but on each side are fun looking areas you can't wheel in. Really sucks.

The problem with a west side trail ride on here is that the dnr will stalk you waiting to write tickets. That is why nobody sees group outings posted here.

Such is life, this is why we have great places (albeit far from home)
Like R&V, Bundy Hill and Twisted Trails.
I can not speak for the rest of the group, but most times getting out in the woods, away from the traffic, noise and row after row of houses and buildings into some fresh air and scenery is all I need to set my head straight. I am thankful for what little trail system we have left.

I like driving the area too, taking as many two tracks and back roads up to baldwin and getting some ice cream, but its not really wheeling.
