It's to bad, there is no rehabilitation involved with prison or Juvy. We now have a life long dependent on the system, a burden to society.

More burden, higher taxes, less jobs, more burden, higher taxes, less jobs, higher taxes, less jobs, more burden.....................

I'm no legal beagle but I do believe that a 15 year old kid doesn't realize what he is doing when on a joy ride. We could put him in jail for a longer time and he'll probably come out a hardened criminal. I really think in a case like this there is no right answer.

I'm all for throwing the book at punks carrying a gun and shooting people. They know what they are doing and consider themselves a barny badass. This kid just did something stupid.

If he had set out to smash in to somebody, I would 100% concur. But, from the sound of the article. They were joyriding. No malicious intent. I think that reading 3 books a week is an odd punishment, I thinking making him get his education, doing community service would be appropriate. They said the kid isn't remorseful, just blank stares.. with out knowing any back story.. He's probably in a state of shock.

If I had ever been caught doing the messed up stuff I did when I was young and stupid, I would have been locked up in prison for a long time. I consider ymself to be very much of a benefit to the community. I have a hard time saying that these kids are horrible, and need to be locked away forever bla bla bla. They were just unlucky, and stupid and got caught.

He knew damn well he was breaking the law already. 15 year olds aren't allowed to drive without an adult in the car (If he even had a learners permit in the first place.) Should't have went on his little joy ride in the first place, none of it would have happened.

same could be said for the getaway driver of an armed robbery, where the victim is killed, driver will still be charged with the murder.

I guess that's the way I am looking at the issue. He was out driving at high enough speed to kill someone with his mini SUV.

Monkeybiz, I did some dumb stuff too but I never killed anyone, did you?

Thats another question. I assume it was his parents SUV. Did they know he was out joy riding in their SUV?

I'm sure many of us, intentionally or accidentally, have failed to stop at a stop sign before.

Of bigger concern to me is #1 taking a vehicle without permission, or if someone gave him permission, they should also receive some punishment, and #2 fleeing the scene of an accident.
