GONE - Sony KDP-57WS655 57" HDTV - needs repair

This is the TV discussed here:
My HDTV gave up the other night. - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest

The short story is that the TV is showing the "10 blink" error code, which means there is an issue on the deflection board related to power supply. I had a repair service come to the house and they want to just replace the whole board. From what I have read online, only certain components on the board require replacement and the repair service appears to just want to take the easy route. I think its worth getting another opinion since the service that came was the one listed on the Sony site, but I don't want to keep shelling out $ for each visit.

The TV has zero issues other than the current issue and has a very nice picture with no convergence problems. The repair service estimated $650-$700 for a complete deflection board replacement. If you wish to go that route, the in-home diagnostic fee I paid can be applied to that repair ($110), but it will have to be done in my name. That means you're going to need to front me the estimate before I will schedule the repair (so I don't get stuck with the bill).

Or, you can investigate sourcing a board and installing or replace the specific components yourself on the cheap.

Here are all the specs on the Sony site.

Here is the TV on Sony\\\\\\\\\\'s support site, where all the documentation is available for free in PDF format.

If you have kids and want a big TV for the basement/playroom and don't want to get something nice that they might f-up, this may be a good solution. Multiple A/V inputs on the back with one HDMI and a Cable Card slot. Has a Memory card reader for slideshowing (like a huge electronic picture frame) and additional input jacks in front, as well. I also have the remote.

Pick-up only in Sterling Heights. Its a big, free-standing unit on wheels, but only weighs 181lbs and can be carried by two people. However, it is on the 1st floor, so no carrying is required at pick-up. It can basically be rolled out the front door and into the driveway for loading.

Gone.
