Default Looking for work?

Wondering how many people are still looking for work after losing a perfectly good job due to the economy.

I have 4. Haven't been "let go" ever. Networking and the ability to say "I'll work for min. wage". IMO.

The last couple years, I've been working 3-4 jobs at a time as well. This summer I sent out over 150 resumes. Times are tough.

The economy isn't so bad where I live. Not great but not Michigan . . . move is an easy solution especially if you are going to walk away from your mortgage.

You're young yet. Give it time. My wife worked fr 15 impeccable years at the same company, and one day just got the axe. Cutbacks.

Hey, if minimum wage meets all your needs, then I think you'll be fine for the rest of your life. When I was young I thought it was fine too. I learned a few things along the way.

Anyone here over 40 that think minimum wage is enough to support an acceptable lifestyle?

My husband has been looking for almost two years. Times are tough and he got laid off but you don't hear us whining. It's not a huge deal for us because we only lived on one income and saved the second income. Having said that he would like to be back working ,because he feels like he could be losing touch with his field.

Wow. I'm sorry he's having such a tough time.

So, I don't want to pry, but I'm curious to know if you think you would be able to afford a major health issue, like a heart attack, stroke, car accident, or like my sister in law, the sudden discovery of a stage 3 brain tumor? Do you have health insurance?

Lost my job back in Feb of '09. Was out of work for 50 weeks and then laneded a contract job out of town. Been working that since Feb of this year and just yesterday signed an offer letter for a job back in my hometown. 10% pay cut and less vacation time but happy to be back home and in a work enviornment that suits me.

My wife has been laid off since May of '09. Couple months before our wedding. She has been sending out resumes and applications. Going to networking meetings. Nothing. I think she has over inflated money requirements but still. She isn't going to find a job in this state making what she was making before the layoff.

We were lucky the newest unemployment extention went through or we would be totally screwed.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope things improve for you. What is sad to me is that there are many people on this site that would include you in the freeloader looking for a handout category, when we both know that's not true at all. Hang in there.

By the way all, CitiMortgage in Ann Arbor is hiring like crazy. IM me for more info.
