Default Kalkaska Trail

I'm thinking of checking out the Kalkaska Route this weekend (the ORV route on this map). Anyone been on it that can give me a basic run down of what to expect?

This will be my first time off-road (yes, hi total newb here). I'd rather avoid any steep hill climbs, or anything else too risky. I'm looking more for some mud and rough terrain to bounce around on.

I'm driving a stock '09 JK Wrangler Unlimited, no winch or anything, and I won't have another vehicle with me, so I'd like to avoid any nasty trouble spots.

Thanks in advance.

You have to stay on the "Route" the trail is for ATV's. I have not been on this Route before but my the OHV Routes I have been on are all very mild. Just make sure you follow the map and signs in the woods. Have fun and be safe.
I would try and find some one to come along too its never a good idea to head out with out another jeep/truck.

Yes, that's what I meant, the route.

Anyone going out there this Saturday morning?

I'm no expert on MI DNR maps, but if you are talking about the route highlighted in yellow, it looks to me like you are on trails for ATVs and motorcycles only.

If that is true, do not take your Jeep on those trails. Maybe some others on here can verify.

Where ever you decide to go, it is highly un-advisable to go wheeling alone. Especially in a stock jeep with no winch, and this being your first time.

Maybe try a OHV park first where there are typically plenty of people to help out in the event you need it.

Yeah, doesn't look like any of that is legal for your jeep. Sorry.

I'm talking about the red dashed line. It's labeled as ORV Route in the map key.

Okay. So you are going to do the Kalkaska Route. Not Kalkaska Trail. That makes a difference. You should be good.
