I'm undecided and there's about as much of a chance that I'll pick up a ballot for the primary as there is that I would pick up a one... but Bernero did buy me some shots at a conference a few years ago, so he does have that going for him.

As far as Snyder goes... If he wins the primary and ultimately the general election, I wonder how much the "politicians" in the legislature, on either side of the aisle, are going to want to work with him after all of his campaigning on how horrible politicians are? Politicians have been known to be petty and hold grudges after all. Also for somebody he is campaigning on how awful, broken, and untrustworthy politicians are he sure is spending a lot of time, money, and effort on trying to become one. But he's still probably at the top of my list on the (R) side of the ballot...

Don't like Cox - 100% politician.

Hoekstra is too much of a Bible-thumper although I generally like where he stands.
x2 on Hoekstra's religious views. I also like the fact that snyder isn't pro-life. However, I'm afraid that his semi pro-choice stance will hurt him in the general election.

X2,000,000!!! That guys is a joke. He's so deep in the Auto Companies pockets lint looks down on him. (corny I know). The only thing he is good at is prolonging the already failed economy by trying to make the Big three come back to Lansing. That's not what needs to happen, We need to change what our economy is based on to survive and grow. He doesn't get this.

Just one question...where do you stand on abortion?

Julie,

I am a pro-life, pro-family Republican. While this is an important issue to a lot of us, my focus as governor will be on economic recovery. I believe as Michiganders we need to all work together to renew our commitment to creating more and better jobs, enhancing the quality of life we offer, reforming our education system and revitalizing our central cities. With a vibrant economy, the social fabric of our communities and families will be stronger and some of the social issues that are causing harm will become less of a problem.

-Rick Snyder
Quote:
Q: You’ve said that you’re pro-life, but why did you support the stem cell initiative and how do you reconcile the two?

A: I am firmly pro-life. I understand that this is a very personal and passionate issue for many of us. At the same time, in today’s society it has become a very divisive issue. Good people can and have drawn different conclusions. I have a strong belief in the value of human life, which I believe begins at conception and includes human embryos. I also believe that the sanctity of life should be upheld. As I struggled with my personal choice on this issue, I ultimately decided that stem cell research and its possible life-giving potential would be a better alternative than discarding unused embryos. It is also my hope that scientific advances in the use of adult stem cells will soon make embryonic stem cell research unnecessary. I understand that not everyone can agree with my position on this issue. Ultimately, the voters have decided this issue and as Governor I would uphold the voters’ wishes, regardless of my personal opinion. As Governor, my primary focus would be on the economy and creating better economic conditions that will give families more financial stability and significantly help address many of the social issues that most Michiganders care about.
Pro-lifers drive me crazy, but it seems to come hand in hand with conservatism.

Snyder is getting/got our vote this morning just for the simple fact that this State needs to be run like a business and he has done that. The Cox ad that says he is tough enough for Michigan is silly, we dont need a tough governor we need a smart governor with a business mentality to get us out of the 12 year funk.

Why? I think Snyder's comments that you quoted are pretty spot on in alignment with mine.

I don't believe in killing a child, regardless of it's stage in life. However, if there are alternatives as he listed, it makes sense.

From 2005 to 2007, Snyder served as the non-executive Chairman of the Board of Gateway. During 2006, Snyder served as interim CEO while a search for a permanent replacement was made. His tenure on the board of Gateway ran from 1991 to 2007, until Gateway was sold to the Taiwanese manaufacturer, Acer Inc. on October 16, 2007.

So he was involved with the demise of Gateway............?
..........and your time line shows he was on the board for Gateway when they developed those Ram Sticks at $100 a Meg to the consumer. Probably a great buisness man, but I'm wondering about his ethics now.

Somebody show me some good stuff, so that I can vote for him after work.

IIRC, and this could be wrong, and I really don't feel like finding the story I read, The board voted to ship the jobs overseas, and he didn't have a vote.

Not being able to split the ticket in the primary is a PIA indeed so in races that I don't care about for whatever party ticket I use because I plan to vote for the other party in the general, I will just vote for the person I think would have the worse shot at winning the general so that my party's candidate in that race will hopefully have an easier time.

You've got to figure out how to make the stupid primary rules work in your favor.

I went to the polls thinking I was voting for Mike Cox. After some soul searching I decided to vote for Snyder. I've just heard too many things about Cox being a "business as usual" politician.
