Default How to title a dune buggy

Hey guys I am interested in a dune buggy but the seller does not have a title. What do I have to do to get a title for it to make it street legal. It has almost everything to pass the street legal inspection but is it hard to get a title for it? I have looked online and at the Michigan gov. website but I have heard different things from different people. Let me know, thanks!

You need to have a TR-54 form filled out, once you have everything on the list on the buggy, you need to have a police officer inspect it and sign the TR-54 form, Take it to the SOS office and they will issue you a temp vin number and plate, you then with have another inspection from the state, they will come to your house and make sure eveything is correct and you and you did not have a buddy that may be a police officer sign the form. They will place your new vin tag on the buggy and you wil be able to get a real plate for it. Sounds simple but take them about 6 to 8 weeks to get vin number and the second insection done. Good luck and make sure that you have everything on the TR-54 form before you take it to get inspected the first time.

You will need reciepts for everything so they can show they are not stolen, I think if you have a reciept for the whole buggy you should be fine. I am doing a golf cart and my bill of sale worked for me.

When we made our last buggy legal we were able to take it to the police station (we took it to the Fraser Police station on 14mile and Utica) for them to place the VIN sticker onto the buggy. This was about 5 years ago so things might have changed since then.
