I'm taking my brother-in-law for his first Jeep wheeling experience the weekend of the 12'th and 13'th. Anyone game?

I emailed them today and they said there will be plenty of room especially since a lot of people are avoiding that weekend due to the atv's. It may actually turn out to be the weekend to go. KerryAnn look forward to meeting you and wheelin. I'll PM you with my cell number so we can meet up.

Your Cell might not work on DI. It is spotty reception at best.

I had been planning on making it to Drummond at the end of my Jeeping and caching trip...on August 15 or 16 but am now considering going at the beginning to ensure that I don't run out of time (August 4-5).

I have a question about rustic camping on Drummond. And by rustic I mean cruise deep into the woods and set up a tent. Anybody camp this way? Was thinking about Glen Cove. If I had to I suppose that I'd camp at Maxtor Bay campground, but I expect it to be full.

The only reason I hijacked your thread is that I see several of you are planning on being there at the same time. What are your plans?

yes you can camp on state land, like glen cove. but i believe that you need to get a permit, to let the DNR kind of know where you will be, or something like that. i dont think it costs anything either. however, i could be wrong, as i have never camped on the island

If it is like you say then it is simply a notification thing at the nearest DNR station. Thank you for the information. I have camped like that a lot. Tip of the Keweenaw is the same thing...permission from Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor. Now to locate the DNR HQ...

Sorry to FURTHER hijack folks ...

I'm starting to plan my first trip to Drummond. Looking to go mid-sept.

We plan to just camp where ever the trail takes us for the day.

Does anyone have links to decent maps of the area. Looking mostly for trail maps and maybe a list of the must-see areas. I really don't know much. Looking at topos, I can tell that I need to see marble head.

Any help is appreciated. PMs are welcomed.

thanks.

it wasn't that bad...it was just, "can't we do something non jeep related for once" so I gave in, I didn't really plan on fighting hard for that one, oh well maybe next time.

I just got back form the island yesterday and it was very nice. We had 6 rigs up there and everyone got a new dent or 2. I had the only fullsize and I got a lot of dents! If you go into the lower part of TurtleRidge it is very tight for a big truck.

Looks like we're backing out of this weekend. Everyone else backed out and I have some issues with the jeep that I havent had time to get resolved. So hopefully soon we'll plan another trip.

Stop up at the Bear Tracks in for breakfast and Steve Walker has trail maps for the area. He also owns the Turtle Ridge Orv park which is good for some challenging wheeling.

Steve does not own the park but he runs it. The drummond island confrence center owns the property. Steve is very cool and will help you out in any way he can.
