Sweet. Do you happen to know what caused the formations? At first I was thinking it could be old volcanic activity but it looks like sedimentary rock.

In a nutshell, a glacier front scoured out parts of Lake Superior, and the sediments were piled up in the Porkies and the surrounding area. You will also find a lot of glacial terminal moraines around this area, for a similar reason. Then the glacier front moved over this and south, and the area spent a fairly long time under there, even relative to other parts of the great lakes, and this fine-grained metamorphosed sedimentary rock was left when the glacier retreated. The waterfalls were most likely just a convenient low point in the rock that has been weathered down into those neat shapes by seasonal snow melt and the river.

This state is absolutely gorgeous. It really is. People should want to live here. It just sucks the state economy is in the shitter.

I will say states out west (CO for example) are very pretty too, but it's dry as shit and the altitude sucks.

This state you're surrounded by water, there are hills, dunes, lakes up the wazoo, waterfalls and other shit in the UP, and a lot of gorgeous forest land around. You get all four seasons, no big natural disasters to worry about, poisonous animals, fire ants, and all that shit.
