4.0L HO in early Pickup...

Has anyone ever seen a Jeep 4.0L in an 80's p-up. I realize its sacriledge to the toyota but i killed the 22re in my truck and have a complete 4.0L w/ trans, harness, complete everything already sitting in my garage. So im thinking about dropping the Jeep motor into my 87 pickup. If i were to do it i would eliminate the 4wd(trans is a 2wd one) which i wouldnt mind, as prerunner was always the direction i wanted to go with the truck. Thoughts, comments, etc, welcome

I think the motor is going to be way to long.

yeah you'll probably have to put the radiator in the bed. One plus to a 4.0 over a SBC is that you don't have to worry about clearance for the distributor at the back since it's on the side of a 4.0.

motor will fit w/o cutting if i can run without a fan on the motor and a remotely mounted radiator.

If you remote mount a radiator it would be pointless to put a fan on it.

The 4.0 is that much longer than a 7M? Because the 7M fits easy enough. I never thought the 4.0 was that worth while of an engine but it certainly would be different. I mean I have never seen it done (maybe for a reason) but I have seen a 22R in a Jeep :)

lot of work for not much gain...doesnt really seem worth it IMHO...if you want to repower with something different, there are much better options

It should fit. I have seen everything from Frod 5.0's, to Supra 7M's to Benz OM617's in yotas. If that powertrain is just sitting around, throw it in there.

I remember a guy years ago (98?) on the Toyota Mailing List through off-road.com that had a 4Runner with a 7M in it.

There is a video on youtube of one with a VW TDI in it that is pretty neat.

x2.. I think took the whole cherokee front suspension/axle as well...

I would guess its longer than a 5/7m. Those tend to not be the best motors anyway.

Its a lot easier to put a 4.3 vortec in there...
