Default Some aluminum welding

Built some sign posts for Dow Chemical today, blew the dust off the spool gun.
used Harris .030 wire ran a lot better then any other aluminum wire I've tried so far.

Looks a lot nicer than my welds with my spool gun. I used .030 lincoln 4043 wire and it ran like crap but held up.....so far. What welder are you running the spool gun with?

Lincoln Power Mig 200, the one with the Nascar sticker (which is why it welds so good)

I had good luck with my spool gun but my TIG does a better job.

We setup a grill at work next to the welder. We would toss a few pieces on there, while welding and feed the welder with the preheated parts. It welded twice as nice with the spool gun. But getting it to do the spray transfer is a PITA! I made a custom sized liner for our gun at work, slightly tighter with finer wire, made a big difference with tip stickings.

I hear ya Lucas, I have cold starts with mine but when I get the heat set right it seems to flow nicely just off start. When possible I also try and downhill everything if it is a bench weld, preheating the critical stuff like radiators and intakes.
