Thanks, Rick. A lot of dumb shit happened over the course of the year here that really tested my patience. However, the people that were here are going to pretty much take over our Battalion and I will be able to position myself very well - perhaps even stepping over to the dark side. Its been in my contract since I first enlisted, but I decided to stay enlisted after Basic. I actually talked to people over here about going WO. They seemed to think that it would still be possible to get a waiver to fly at my age (now that my eyes are fixed) given the current state and needs of the Military.

Through the first elections and for a while after we got here, we were OPCON'd directly to 1st CAV and then to 3rd ID. All that got us like 4 different Combat Patches, but I'll be going with 1st CAV on my uniform. I also spent the last 3 months with the 3-15 INF, managing to get myself a Battalion coin from the BN XO. I imagine you don't see many National Guard Field Artillery soldiers walkng around with Active Duty Infantry coins, so I thought that was very cool of them. Many of them are Rangers.
i can honestly say i dont think i have ever met (in person, much less with) any field artillery guys, so you would be a first. sounds like you have done a bit of moving around over there...did you get to participate in OEF or just OIF....I am not familiar with the 3-15 INf. where are they out of...3rd ID was out a FT. Stewart GA.. and man did we hate them, standard "legs" all the way around....

saw that you where thinking of going Warrant O..very popular decision...id say go for it..got a good buddy who was my xo who is giving up his commision to go play with helos because O's do to much paperwork...he was one of them O's all the enlisted guys took to....on the front line in the shit every day going thru it with us....would have been the first man in the door at saddams mansion..if the boys had let him....good guy...anyway good luck to you....keep yer head own and yer eyes up...shoot em first, ask questions later....see you when you get back....

As you know, I retired out of the MI ARNG as a CW4 helicopter flight instructor pilot in 1995.
I still wear the 1st Cav patch from my second "tour" in Vietnam on the right shoulder of my "retired" uniform.
I still have my 1st Cav sabre mounted on the wall here in my home office.
I still have some very good connections with the MI ARNG chinook unit at Selfridge. Most importantly, SSG Lisa Duncan, the full time unit personnel admin.
If you want a phone number, let me know.

Rick, I have been asking questions about this around here and I hear that the age limit has been raised, making this a very real possibility for me. I'll PM you.

I also have some silly pictures they made me take with a big check that I will post soon.
