Default I re-enlisted.

They gave me a lot of money.:tonka:

Been thinking about what to do now. I've been planning on taking some time off based on the bonus to make more improvements to both houses, build a garage in Highland, and actually make progress on my rigs, including the Ram. But after hashing it out, I have realized that I will have the bonus, 2 tax returns, a bunch of accrued Military Leave, and a check consisting of $3.00/day in the States and $3.50/day over here while on Active Duty (about 14 months worth total). I don't think I will have to go back to work until April or May if I really don't want to and budget my expenses. Lear allows me to be gone for up to 4 years on Military Leave and still accrue seniority and merit raises.

I think I'm going to have to take a few vacations from my vacation. So, where are some cool places for a fly white guy to go? I've never been to Vegas or on a cruise. Suggestions?

PP - think about the "Mayan Riviera" area of Mexico (about 30 km south of Cancun). No beach vendors, private resorts, white sand, and perfect turquiose water. Most resorts are all-inclusive and reasonably priced. Excellent diving just offshore (second biggest reef behind Australia) and Cozumel is world-class diving and snorkeling.

No cities, little to no "local color"...

I'm with the 1-182 FA (MLRS) from Detroit/Bay City/Lansing. Over here, we were under the 720th MP BN/42nd MP BDE, 519th MP BN/49th BDE. Through the first elections and for a while after we got here, we were OPCON'd directly to 1st CAV and then to 3rd ID. All that got us like 4 different Combat Patches, but I'll be going with 1st CAV on my uniform. I also spent the last 3 months with the 3-15 INF, managing to get myself a Battalion coin from the BN XO. I imagine you don't see many National Guard Field Artillery soldiers walkng around with Active Duty Infantry coins, so I thought that was very cool of them. Many of them are Rangers.

Congratulations on your decision.
The best investment you can make is yourself, your own skills, etc.
Especially with all the Congressional committee discussion about lowering the retirement age.
I know it was definitely the single best financial decision I ever made; to stay with it at least until that gold "20 year letter" was in my hand.

When me and my buddy got back from Afghanistan a few years ago, we decided to go to Vegas. We stayed at the Luxor and already were given a pretty good military discount, but when the Casino Host (who is in charge of the Luxor, Excalibur and the Mandalay Bay) found out we were Marines, he hooked us up more than I could have ever imagined.

I don't know if this guy had a soft spot for Marines or for vets in general, but if you do decide to go to Vegas, let me know. I still have the guy's card and he left me and my buddy an open invitation to enjoy their hospitality again or to pass on his info to other friends of ours (meaning other Marines, but hey, its worth a try).
