They used to fill in the wells with gold and silver, so this might be worth digging up

Lots of times in the 1940s the government made vaults to hide gold from the Nazis in case they invaded. That's what that looks like to me.

Probably the remains of an old well or whats left of a foundation. There was the remains of an old well house buried in the back yard of the house I grew up in in Dearborn.

Where in Dearborn Heights is this?

check this site out:
http://sanborn.umi.com/cgi-bin/auth....mand=ShowLogin

i'm having problems finding the username and pw. sanborn seems to change it, but google it and you might just find it...or a secondary source.

these are the maps that were at the local fire departments. the insurance companies used them too. it was a way the fd could see what was on a specific site when going to a fire. even privy's are plotted.

don't fill it in! at least bust a small hole and stick a camera in there so that we can see all of the buried treasure that you are leaving behind.

house my sister used to live in, I was digging a trench to run electric out ot the garage...right where I intended to run the majority of the length, I hit several stones that wouldnt move...turned out to be an old foundation wall...digging along side of that, I found lots of charred pieces of wood....turned out a house had sat across what was now the property line of her yard and the neighbors, and had burned, so they just pushed everything in and covered it with dirt.

Obviously it's something from before houses were there, probably from when it was farm land. And you found all that was left in your yard. It's probably just a part of something that was much larger and the rest could have bee nhauled away or buried elsewhere in the area.

I was digging a grave one time in the old part of the cemetery, and the other guy I was working with found some "black sticks" in the hole we were digging. Then we found a casket handle. We filled the hole back in, moved over 5', and dug a new grave.
