Default SBC V8 Swap/Driveline Questions XJ

It's time to retire my 200k mi I6, it's held up good through the years but I want to replace it with a bit more power for the '98 XJ.

I already have a spare mildly built 350 SBC and a built 700R4 Transmission from a GMC Typhoon. I've seen others use the Th350/400 which I know are great choices but require a $400+ adapter. Would it be possible to use my 700R4 and mate it with a NP231 out of a Chevy? $100 transfer case vs $400+ adapter just makes sense to me..

Or should I just purchase a TH350 and adapter to mate to the Jeep NP231?

Anyone done this before, if so please post how it worked out for you if at all.

Thanks.

have you thought about strokin it to a 4.7 our 5.0, that with a good cam and some bigger injectors you'd be close to a sbc and you could say you have a stroker!

use an s10 transfer case behind the 700r4 it works perfectly. there are a few other issues i have noticed with mine, but over all was a worth while swap, way more get up and go than the 4.0 ever dreamed of having.
