Need to take both a written and riding test. If you don't have a bike to take the test on, you will need to take a MSF class to get that part out of the way.

The class is a good idea anyway as it teaches you some good habits that may save your life on the streets. Add in the fact they provide a motorcycle for you to learn and test on, it is all good.

the full class is a little more pricey but definitely the way to go. if you just go the cheap route and the less intelligent way it will cost you around 35 for the actual riding test, 10 or 15 for written and another 20 for the license thats all ball park i cant remember exactly

Endorsement is an extra $13.50.

Safety (MSF) classes at your local Community College is $25. Period. Classes are one weekend, two-weekend, weeknight, or weekday. Motorcycle provided.

Bring your own helmet, full finger gloves, sturdy boots (no sneakers), long pants, jacket and eye protection.

Schoolcraft Community College at 7 Mile and I275. Macomb Community College over in Warren are two that have classes all the time. Not that far from Lake Orion if you really want to take the class.

When I got around to taking the written (had my safety certificate from $25 class) at the SOS, they charged me $22.50 to get a new license with the endorsement, new picture included. You will get a paper permit to go along with a clipped previous license until you get your new license.

I just got my bike two weeks ago, and I like my bike, got it for cheap, and its a 2006 so its very reliable.
